Job Title: Shipping/ Receiving Clerk – NTIC – Circle Pines, MN

Purpose:

Prepare and ship/receive international and domestic shipments to and from NTIC.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Preparing Domestic and International inbound/outbound shipments, NTIC directed, or customer directed.
  • Coordinate directly and/or with International Shipper to outside agencies regarding the movement of freight.
  • Maintain records and files as required.
  • Must be able to fill out bills of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers.
  • Must be capable of calculating weight and use that information to quote the cost of shipping.
  • Must be familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements.
  • Coordinate/Make arrangements for pick-up by the carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order which is conveyed to the shipper by final inspection via the shipping instructions.
  • Responsible for keeping adequate inventory of shipping materials on hand at all times.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Receiving responsibilities include but are not limited to the following tasks; be familiar with and able to interpret packing slips, enter into the computer the correct information, arrange and deliver samples to the appropriate dept/people, acknowledge receipt of goods into the purchase order and processing database. Mark and document any discrepancies/damages on BOL’s and take pictures as appropriate.
  •  Use UPS/FEDEX and other partner online systems to ship orders.
  • Conduct Weekly Cycle Counts, Review/Investigate discrepancies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Strong background in shipping/receiving, warehouse operations, picking/packing, and palletizing. thorough understanding of loading and unloading semi-trailers, dock trucks and sea containers. and the pertinent documentation associated with the shipments ( BOL’s, Packing Slips, SLI’s, SDS, HazMat etc.) and have forklift operation experience.
  • Min. 3-5 years warehouse/distribution experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess effective communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Effective planning and prioritization skills.
  • Energetic attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Possess knowledge of standard freight documentation and terms including ability to interpret and apply freight rates and schedules.
  • Must be organized and can maintain accurate records by assuring documentation is properly processed and filed.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a multi-tasking Cross functional work environment and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Required to read, write, and speak English, follow verbal instructions, and use simple math.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Strong computer skills (excel, word) and prior ERP/ MRP experience.

Preferred but not required:

  • Familiar with current material handling equipment and forklift certified.
  • Microsoft Dynamics GP experience.

Physical Requirements of Job:

  • Works in a combination of Warehouse/Mfg. and Office Environments.
  • Exposed to elements such as varying temperatures, noise, dust, odors, fumes, oils.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs as required.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility.
  • Reports to the Materials and Logistics Manager.
