Job Title: Technical Service Engineer – ZERUST – Circle Pines, MN
Location: Circle Pines, MN
Travel Required: Up to 30%
Position Type: Full Time

Purpose:

As a Technical Service Engineer, this individual communicates chemical & physical concepts regarding the use of Zerust products and regarding corrosion prevention to the sales team and to customers. Lab testing is often required to determine root causes of corrosion problems, to understand the best prevention methods, and to find and prevent possible failure modes. The position determines which tests, if any, should be completed for each application, as well as what information is needed. This individual makes recommendations to clients and colleagues from a scientific perspective and is responsible for preparing professional test reports.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Experimental design
  • Experience with analytical chemistry (FTIR, Ion Chromatography, SEM, and others)
  • Ability to travel up to about 30% (primarily domestic travel)
  • Very strong communication skills

  • Experience working directly with clients
  • Ability to manage workflow in the lab
  • Strong chemistry, physics, and materials-science skills

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Chemical/Chemistry or Metallurgy
  • A strong understanding of wash chemistry, corrosion prevention strategies, and paint pretreatment processes is highly preferred to support technical evaluations, product development, and customer guidance.
  • Preferred, but not required – 2 years relevant work experience with technical competencies in manufacturing, coating, machine fabrication sector(s)
  • Preferred, but not required – work experience in automotive, machining industry, oil & gas, agriculture, and heavy vehicles
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience with manufacturing, particularly metals
  • Understanding of shipping, logistics, and packaging design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; capable of delivering public technical presentations.
  • A general interest in learning and becoming an expert on our products
  • Able to work with internal and external customers
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Good project management skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be willing to obtain a valid passport to travel within the United States, Canada, and Mexico
  • Must be able to travel independently up to 30% of the time (Travel can be sporadic and last minute at times)
  • Must have the ability to work face-to-face with clients/customers on technical issues
